Nicolas Ellis, Conductor
Jerry Hu, Piano

Rising star, maestro Nicolas Ellis, makes his long awaited SSO debut in an unforgettable night of iconic music.

Beethoven’s 5th symphony has stopped audiences in their tracks since its premiere over 200 years ago. Bursting with passionate energy, the 5th Symphony opens with the four most memorable notes in all of music. Paired with this work is the Jeder Baum spricht by Iranian-Canadian composer Iman Habibi. The work is inspired by the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.

Saskatoon pianist Jerry Hu won the 2021 Saskatchewan Music Festival Shurniak Concerto competition, and he makes his prize winning SSO debut with Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto.

This concert is approximately 70 minutes and without intermission.

With great anticipation and careful planning, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is heading back to the big stage. We can’t wait to share the music together. The SSO is taking every possible measure to ensure the safety of audience members and musicians at performances. Proof of vaccination, or a recent negative Covid-19 test (within 24-72 hours of concert start time), is required at the door along with a valid photo ID.
